Public Art workshops – Winnipeg, 2011 – Art City

As the guest artist at Art City (an all ages drop-in arts centre), I worked with Winnipeg residents to create flags and banners that expressed their dreams, criticisms and passion for their neighbourhood and city. Participants collaborated for 5 minutes to five days and the content ranged from utopian to fantastical to nihilistic. The final texts were collectively chosen and developed into large-scale banners and hung from prominent bridges, so to attract the attention of passing drivers. The final banners read: ‘Let’s get to together & have supper’, ‘Stop! Dance Party!’, ‘We could have so much fun’. This is our attempt to portray such a warm and complex city.
