Sensations Create Futures / This is not a practice for coping

Zoe Kreye & Catherine Grau. School of WE, <rotor> Centre for Contemporary Art, Graz Austria, 2021. Painted mural, clay vessels, performance scores.

You are stepping into a portal. This is a cave with a mud floor. First ground within yourself, know that you belong, witness and recognize your infinite being. This clay invites you to connect with an ancient and inherent knowing of nature, sensation, and depth. Working from sensation is an act of acknowledging truths and dismantling the conditioning on white colonial capitalist culture. Future dreaming that is guided by sensation can be very challenging and painful work; Sensations create futures / This is not a practice for coping (to better fit within current social conditions) is a reminder to work with and through the act of sensing with intention, care, and shared liberation at its core. These layered lines were made through the attentive expression of 8 people marking their bodies in space, together. The installation will continue to grow through your offerings built in clay.

*This installation was created through through guided score led by artists online and physically executed by local participants.

Score for painting: First grounding within yourself, foster your sense of belonging, witness and recognize your containment. Then focus on the boundary of you meeting the world. With each step draw the lines of the sensations you experience.

Imagine a vessel inside your body. It is a space of great potential. Focus on your interior sensations; what shape do you feel inside your body? Take your time. Start with a solid base, build with your breath, explore the shape with your inner eye. Dig your hands into the clay and use it to manifest your interior vessel. This is a shape of your potentiality. Place your vessel in this room, among the other vessels. Acknowledge how you are showing up today (this may be different tomorrow).
